Tiferes Citation and Plagiarism Guide

You must cite any idea, text or media that you quote or paraphrase that is not yours including:

  • books, journals and other printed or electronic (on-line) material
  • newspapers and magazines including comics and advertisements
  • art work, music, video, television shows, performances and radio
  • ideas, opinions, theories and formulas in any format
  • maps and graphs
  • facts or statistics that are not common knowledge
  • works found in collections, encyclopedias and dictionaries
  • interviews (oral and written)
  • information found on websites, including blogs, Facebook and Twitter

The only time that you do not have to cite a source is when information is considered common knowledge or the material is completely your own.
