Formatting the Title Page

Create a separate cover page for a report in APA style.

  • Set margins to 1” on all sides.

  • Create a Header in your word processing program that contains the title or key phrase from your essay title (2 or 3 words). Add 5 spaces and then the page number 1.

  • Repeat the header on all pages, updating page number.

  • One third of the way down, centre the following:

    • Full title of your paper, capitalizing the main words. Do not underline, italicize or use bold or large type.

    • Your name

    • Course Name and Number (or Grade)

    • Teacher’s Name

    • Due date of paper

  • Double space for the entire page.

Formatting In-Text Citation

  • Use in-text citations in parentheses (brackets) unless your teacher says otherwise.

  • The citations usually include the authors’ names, publication dates and page numbers, however depending upon the type of source or the information that is available it may differ. Please refer to the categories in the following pages.

  • All in-text citations must be document on the References page at the end of the paper.

  • Refer to APA - In-Text Citation

Formatting the Essay Pages

  • Set margins to 1” on all sides.

  • Use the same Header from the first page, updating the page number.

  • Centre the Title of the paper.

  • Indent each paragraph by 5 spaces.

  • Double-space and use 12-point font.

  • Indent long quotations by 5 spaces, with no quotation marks and place a period at the end.
